Nagpur Cousins present Sunday Kutcheri in the Park



Overnight rain in Madras meant the city woke up to a cool and pleasant morning. At the Chess Square of the Nageswara Rao Park, morning walkers and regulars for the Sunday Kutcheri welcomed the Cousins from Nagpur to Sunday Kutcheri.

10 year old Sandhya and 12 year old Aishwarya, who are students of Smt. Ranjani Krishanakumar (Disciple of renowned artiste Smt. D. K. Pattammal), were all excited to present a Kutcheri sans mikes and speakers and in front of an informal park audience.

Accompanied by Master Naveen Srinivas, on the Mridangam, by Miss C. Sardha on the Violin and by Master Chandra Sekar Sharma on Ghatam, Sandhya and Aishwarya started with Purandaradasar’s Sharanu Siddhi Vinayaka ( Hamir Kalyani Ragam) and went on to present Muthuswamy Dikshitar’s Ananda Amrita Varshini (Ragam,Swaram, Neraval), Thyagarajar’s Bantureeti ( Humsanaadam) and Annamachrya’s Bhavayami(Yaman Kalyani), among other compositions.

PS Raghavan, Head, Sundaram Business Services was present on the occasion and presented certificates and mementos to the artistes.


Sunday Kutcheri in the Park provides a platform for young children under the age of 15 years to display their musical talent in an informal park audience. Mikes and Speakers are not used at the Sunday Kutcheri in the Park. Sundaram Finance conducts audition to select the artistes.
