Two Overseas Students present Sunday Kutcheri


Sunday morning at the Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore saw two young overseas children present the mikeless kutcheri as part of the monthly Sunday Kutcheri in the Park organised by Sundaram Finance. At 630am, 13year old Aditya Ravikanth, a class 9student of Acton Boxborough High School, Massachusetts, USA presented a 45minute Kutcheri. Aditya who has been learning music from Guru Smt. Tara Anand presented songs that included Vinayaka (Hamsadhwani Ragam/Adi Taalam), Sadaachaleswaram (Bhoopalam/Adi) and Meenakshi Me Mudam (Poorvikalyani/ Adi).
2nd Kutcheri of the morning Following this, 10year old S. Sowmya Lakshmi, a class 6 student of Elite English School, Dubai presented a lively one hour Kutcheri between 715am and 815am applauded by the music lovers who came there not withstanding the heavy late night rain in Mylapore. Sowmya Lakshmi has been learning music from Guru Palakkad Vijay Kumar. Sowmya Lakshmi’s compositions included Tyagarajar’s Sree Ganapathini (Sowrashtram Ragam, Aadhi Taalam), Maa Jaanaki (Kamboji / Aadhi) and Bandureethi (Hamsanadham/Aadhi), Pattanam Subrahmaniayer’s Aparaadha (Lathangi/ Aadhi), Gopalakrishna bharathi’s Sabhapathikku (Aabhogi Roopakam ) and Vanamaali Jeeyar’s Janaki Ramana (Kaappi/ Aadhi).
Accompanists Both the carnatic vocal artistes were accompanied on the Mirudangam by R. Kishore (Guru: Shri R. Ramesh) and on the Violin by Parur Ananthalakshmi (Guru: M.S. Anantharaman/ M.S. Krishnaswamy). Registration for Sunday Kutcheri in the Park The idea behind the Sunday Kutcheri in the Park organised by Sundaram Finance on the first Sunday of every month is to promote young musical talent aged below 15years and provide them with a launch pad. Over 700 children have presented the Kutcheri at the Nageswara Rao Park. No Mikes and Speakers are used at the Kutcheri. Sundaram Finance conducts audition to select the artistes.
