13 year old R Harini, a student of Dr. Subha Ganesh presented a lively carnatic music performance this Sunday (5th July) morning at the Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore. It was Harini’s first big open air Kutcheri.
Harini was accompanied on the Violin by G Vagadeeshwar (Guru Smt Usha Rajagopalan) and on the Mirudangam by K S Ramakrishnan (Guru Madurai Sri K. Rangarajan).
Applauded through the one hour of the Kutcheri by an audience that comprised of morning walkers and music connoisseurs, Harini presented compositions that included Sobillu Saptaswara (Jaganmohini/Roopakam), Kanchadalaya Dhakshi (Manohari/Adhi), Parvatinayakane (Shanmughapriya / Adhi) and Swagatham Krishna (Mohanam/ Adhi).
P Viswanathan, Company Secretary, Sundaram Finance presented certificates and mementos to the artistes.
The idea behind the Sunday Kutcheri in the Park organised on the first Sunday of every month is to promote young musical talent aged below 15 years and to provide a launch pad for them. The focus has been on developing this as a platform for young ‘unsung’ children. Over 900 children have presented Kutcheri in the Park since its launch in February 2006.
