Palghat Mani Iyer's great grand daughter presents Mikeless Kutcheri


It was close to 7am in the morning. The Flowers had been well laid out at the Chess Square of the Nageswara Rao Park. The organisers had arrived at 630am to set up the stage and were eagerly awaiting the arrival of the artistes. The regulars for the Sunday Kutcheri too had taken their seats around the Chess Square. 14 year old S Sowmya, a student of PSBB KK Nagar finally arrived just before 7am along with the accompanists.
For the next one hour, she presented a lively carnatic music performance in front of a big informal audience. Sowmya who is learning music from Guru Vidwan Sri Palghat T R Raja Ram was accompanied on the Violin by Thirucherai Karthik (Guru Sri V L Kumar) and on the Mridangam by Guru Ragavendar (Guru Kalaimamani (late) Thinniyam Sri Y. Krishnan). Soumya presented compositions that included Thayagrajar’s Guru Lekha Etuvanti (Gowri Manohari) and Akshaya Linga Vibo (Shankarabharanam) and Thiruvarur Ramasami Pillai’s Ekkalathilum (Poorvi Kalyani). Sowmya is the great granddaughter of Mridangam Vidwan Palghat Mani Iyer. TT Srinivasaraghavan, MD, Sundaram Finance Ltd., presented certificates and mementos to the artistes.
The idea behind the Sunday Kutcheri in the Park organised on the first Sunday of every month is to promote young musical talent aged below 15 years and to provide a launch pad for them. The focus has been on developing this as a platform for young ‘unsung’ children. No mikes and speakers are used at the Sunday Kutcheri. Over 900 children have presented Kutcheri in the Park since its launch in February 2006. Sundaram Finance conducts audition to select the artistes for the monthly kutcheri. Harini presents a lively Sunday Kutcheri in the Park


13 year old R Harini, a student of Dr. Subha Ganesh presented a lively carnatic music performance this Sunday (5th July) morning at the Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore. It was Harini’s first big open air Kutcheri. Harini was accompanied on the Violin by G Vagadeeshwar (Guru Smt Usha Rajagopalan) and on the Mirudangam by K S Ramakrishnan (Guru Madurai Sri K. Rangarajan).
Applauded through the one hour of the Kutcheri by an audience that comprised of morning walkers and music connoisseurs, Harini presented compositions that included Sobillu Saptaswara (Jaganmohini/Roopakam), Kanchadalaya Dhakshi (Manohari/Adhi), Parvatinayakane (Shanmughapriya / Adhi) and Swagatham Krishna (Mohanam/ Adhi). P Viswanathan, Company Secretary, Sundaram Finance presented certificates and mementos to the artistes.

Megha presents Sunday Kutcheri in the Park


14 year old Megha Bhaskar, a student of Guru Smt Madhuram presented a lively vocal carnatic music performance on a cloudy Sunday (7 June) morning between 630am and 730am at the Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore.
Megha was accompanied on the Violin by Haritha Narayanan (Disciple of Dr. Hemalatha) and on the Mirudangam by Neyveli K. Sai Prasaad (Disciple of Neyveli Narayanan) Megha presented compositions that included Maha Ganapathim (Nattai/ Rupakam), Saraswathi Namostute (Saraswathi/ Rupakam), Natanam Seiyum Paadanar (Ketharagawla/Rupakam), Karpagame Kanpaarai (Madhyamavathi/Aadhi) and Venkatachala Nilayam (Sindhu Bairavi/Aadhi) G Sundararajan, CFO, Sundaram Home Finance presented certificates and mementos to the artistes.

Aakash presents Sunday Kutcheri


14 year old R Aakash, a student of Vidya Mandir presented a lively vocal carnatic music performance this Sunday (3 May) morning between 630am and 730am at the Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore.
Aakash, who is learning music from Guru Sri Samayakumar, was accompanied on the Violin by Miss Swathi (Disciple of Sri VV Srinivasa Rao – AIR artiste) and on the Mirudangam by Master Adithyan (Student of Sri. Vijayendran, Disciple of Umayalpuram Sivaraman). Aakash presented compositions that included Saraseeruha Sanapriye (Nattai), Rajagopalam (Mohanam), Ksheera Sagara Sayi Poorvi (Kalyani), Raguvamsa Sudha Kathana (Kuthukalam), Santhana Gopala (Khamas) and Chinan Chiru Kiliye (Ragamalika). VK Raman, VP, Sundaram Finance was present on the occasion and handed over certificates and mementos to the artistes.

Varsha presents Sunday Kutcheri


As part of the monthly Sunday Kutcheri in the Park organised by Sundaram Finance, 14year old Varsha, a class X student of Chettinad Vidyashram, presented a lively vocal carnatic music performance this morning at the Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore. No mikes and speakers were used at the kutcheri. Varsha is learning music from Guru Mrs. Vasanthi Ravi.
Varsha presented compositions that included Oothukaadu Venkata Subbaiyar’s Sri Vignarajam Bhajae (Gambeera Nattai), Sri Muthuswamy Dikshithar’s Sri Kamakshi (Vasantha) and Kailasana Dhaena (Kambhoji), Thyagarajar’s Vasudevayani (Kalyani) and Jootha Murarae (Aarabhi), Papanasam Sivam’s Venkata Ramana (Lathangi) and Barathiyar’s Vande Maatharam (Ragamalika). Varsha was accompanied on the Violin by Parur Ananthalakshmi (Disciple of Parur M.S. Anatharaman) and on the Mirudangam by Master S.Sashank (Student of EVL Muthukumaran, disciple of Guru. Karaikudi Mani). S Ravindran, Sr. VP, Sundaram Finance was present on the occasion and presented certificates and mementos to the artistes.

Maithreyi presents Sunday Kutcheri

As part of the monthly Sunday Kutcheri in the Park organised by Sundaram Finance, 14year old Maithreyi presented a lively mikeless kutcheri this morning at the Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore. Maithreyi is learning music from Dr. Chitra Madhavan.
Accompanied on the Violin by S. Vignesh (Guru: Sri S Nagarajan) and on the Mridangam by Hari Vishwanathan (Guru: Ms Narmada Gopalakrishnan), Maithreyi presented compositions that included Thyagarajar’s Sri Ganapathinee ( Sourashtram/Adi) and Guru Leka ( Gowri Manohari/ Kanda Chapu), Muthuswamy Dikshithar’s Shankaram Abhirami ( Kamala Manohari / Roopakam) and Swarna Venkatesa Dikshithar’s Nee Inri (Ananda Bhairavi/Adi), Manila Meedhinil (Desh /Adi) and Ellorum Sugamai ( Madhyamavathi / Adi). P Viswanathan, Company Secretary, Sundaram Finance was present on the occasion and presented certificates and mementos to the artistes.

Sunday Kutcheri in the Park enters 10th Year


The monthly Sunday Kutcheri in the Park organised by Sundaram Finance on the first Sunday of every month has entered the 10th Year. The idea behind the Sunday Kutcheri in the Park launched in February 2006 was to promote young musical talent aged below 15 years and to provide them with a launch pad. The focus has been on developing this as a platform for young ‘unsung’ children. To kick off the 10th year of the Kutcheri in the Park, 8 children aged below 15years from ‘Veenavadhini Sangita Sampradaya Trust’ presented a Group Mikeless Kutcheri on Sunday (Feb 1) morning at the Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore.
The students are learning music from Sri. Jeyaraaj Krishnan & Smt Jayasri Jeyaraaj Krishnan, disciples of Late Sri. Anantharama Iyer & Sel. Champakavalli who are from the Sishya Parampara of Muthuswamy Dikshithar.
Accompanied on the Veena by H R Meenakshi, on the Violin by T V Sukanya and on the Mridangam by R Pranav, the students presented compositions that included Sree Guruguha ( Devakriya / Rupakam), Sree Ranganathan ( Poorna Chandrika / Adi), Maragadha Lingam ( Vasantha / Adi), Marukelara (Jayathasri / Adi) and Saroja Dala Nethri ( Sankarabaranam/ Adi). Present Nottu Swaram The students also presented ‘Nottu Swaram’, a master piece by Muthuswamy Dikshihar composed with Sanskrit Lyrics to Western melodies with the pitch intervals corresponding to that of the Sankarabaranam Ragam and a peppy Thalam.
