Navarathri Kutcheri 7th Year

In 2009, three years after the launch of the Sunday Kutcheri in the Park,Sundaram Finance encountered quite an unexpected challenge. The number of prospective artistes who had cleared the audition had grown manifold and with the age restriction ( Kutcheri in the Park is restricted to children aged below 15 years) the organisers faced a unique challenge of providing these young talented artistes with the opportunity to present the Kutcheri at the Nageswara Rao Park ahead of the 'upper age limit'.
This was one of the reasons to launch the Kutcheri in the Park in its third Avatar( Concert in the Park during the four day Sundaram Finance Mylapore Festival, every margazhi, and the Sunday Kutcheri in the Park on the first Sunday of every month are the other two). And this happy problem has continued to exist ever since. A lot of the slots for 2016 (Sunday Kutcheri in the Park)have already been filled. This morning, the 7th edition of three day Navarathri Kutcheri in the Park was kicked off with a one hour carnatic music performance by 14 year old Purva Dhanashree Cotah. Purva is learning music from Guru Sri P B Srirangachari (Disciple of TN Seshagopalan).
Accompanied on the Violin by Parur Ananthalakshmi (Guru: Parur M.S. Anantha Raman) and on the Mirudangam by K. Aravind Kumar (Guru: Sethalapathy Sri B.Sivaraman), Purva presented compositions that included Shyama Sastri’s Palaysumam ( Arabhi), Diskshithar’s Abhyamba Jagadamba ( Kalyani), Muthiah Bhagavathar’s Vijayambike (Vijayanagari) and Bharathiar’s Maatha Parasakthi ( Ragamalika).
P Viswanathan, Company Secretary, Sundaram Finance presented certificates and mementos to the artistes at the end of the Kutcheri.
