Asmita presents Summer Kutcheri in the Park


12 year old Asmita Padmanabhan, a Class VIII student of Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School, Adyar presented a lively Kutcheri in the Park this Sunday (May 6) morning between 630am and 730am at the Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore. Mikes and speakers are not used at the Kutcheri in the Park. Asmita, who is learning music from Smt. Bhagyalakshmi Suresh (Ganapriya School of Music), was accompanied on the Violin by Chithoor V Bargavavignesh (Disciple of Chithoor C K Vijayaraghavan) and on the Mirudangam by S Aniruddh (Disciple of R Suresh).
Asmita presented compositions that included Vinayaka Ninnu (Hamsadwani/Adi), Sri Saraswathi (Saraswathi/Roopakam), Jagadaananda Karaka (Naatai/Adi), Ananda Natam Aaduvar (Poorvi Kalyani/ Roopakam) and Ammaye Appa (Mohanam/Adi). N. Sriraman, Sr. GM, Sundaram Finance Ltd., presented certificates and mementos to the artistes.
Sunday Kutcheri in the Park was launched in February 2006 with the idea of providing opportunities to young budding talent aged below 15 years to present in front of an informal park audience amidst chirping birds and falling leaves, without mikes and speakers. The Kutcheri in the Park takes place on the first Sunday of every month. Around 1200 children have been part of the Kutcheri in the Park series over the last 12 years. Sundaram Finance conducts audition to select the artistes to present the Mikeless Kutcheri.
