13 year old K Varshaa (Disciple of Vidwan Dr. B. Umashankar), a class VIII student of Sairam Vidyalaya School, Madipakkam presented a lively Mikeless Kutcheri amidst chirping birds and falling leaves this Sunday (June 2) morning between 6.30am and 7.30am at the Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore.
A
unique feature of the Kutcheri in the Park is that no mikes and speakers are
used at the Kutcheri. The idea
is to provide a platform for young musical talent aged below 15 years to
present in front of an informal park audience and to help them shed any stage
fear that they may have.
Applauded by an informal audience comprising of morning park
walkers and Kutcheri regulars, Varshaa presented compositions that
included Balasubramanyanai (Bilahari/ Roopakam), Brihadambigai (Vasantha /
Misra Chaapu),Karpagamey (Amritha Varshini/ Ka) and Nanda Gopala ( Yamuna
Kalyani/ Aadhi).
Varshaa was accompanied on the Violin by Madurai Kishore
(Guru Madurai Krishnamoorthy and G.Suresh Kumar) and on the Mirudangam by
Pazhani Balaji (Guru Thiruvarur
Bhakthavatchalam).
S Sivakumar, VP, Sundaram Finance Ltd., presented
certificates and mementos to the artistes.
Launched in February 2006, Sunday Kutcheri
