Times of India features Sunday Kutcheri in the Park

Sunday Kutcheri in the Park enters 10th Year

The monthly Sunday Kutcheri in the Park organised by Sundaram Finance on the first Sunday of every month has entered the 10th Year. The idea behind the Sunday Kutcheri in the Park launched in February 2006 was to promote young musical talent aged below 15 years and to provide them with a launch pad. The focus has been on developing this as a platform for young ‘unsung’ children. To kick off the 10th year of the Kutcheri in the Park, 8 children aged below 15years from ‘Veenavadhini Sangita Sampradaya Trust’ presented a Group Mikeless Kutcheri on Sunday (Feb 1) morning at the Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore.
The students are learning music from Sri. Jeyaraaj Krishnan & Smt Jayasri Jeyaraaj Krishnan, disciples of Late Sri. Anantharama Iyer & Sel. Champakavalli who are from the Sishya Parampara of Muthuswamy Dikshithar.
Accompanied on the Veena by H R Meenakshi, on the Violin by T V Sukanya and on the Mridangam by R Pranav, the students presented compositions that included Sree Guruguha ( Devakriya / Rupakam), Sree Ranganathan ( Poorna Chandrika / Adi), Maragadha Lingam ( Vasantha / Adi), Marukelara (Jayathasri / Adi) and Saroja Dala Nethri ( Sankarabaranam/ Adi). Present Nottu Swaram The students also presented ‘Nottu Swaram’, a master piece by Muthuswamy Dikshihar composed with Sanskrit Lyrics to Western melodies with the pitch intervals corresponding to that of the Sankarabaranam Ragam and a peppy Thalam.
